At the beginning of the year we spoke about the new netball rules that England Netball would be bringing onto the netball court. As of the 4th April these rules will also be part of the playnetball game. If you have any questions or queries please contact us.
PENALTY POSITIONING: Once the player taking a penalty pass is in the correct position, the player may choose to play the ball immediately – regardless of whether the offender is positioned next to them (they can still choose to wait until the player is positioned correctly next to them though).
CENTRE PASS: Centres must have at least one foot wholly within the centre circle before restarting play. (Previously the second foot couldn’t be touching the ground outside the circle. Now it doesn’t matter where the second foot is).
THROW IN: The player taking the throw in must have their foot within 6 inches of the line (but not touching it)
WHISTLING: Umpires will no longer blow to signal goals (they will now raise one arm vertically in the air to signal a goal) or when a ball is clearly out of court.
GOAL TENDING: Under the Obstruction rule players are not allowed to deflect the ball on its downward flight towards the ring, including touching the ball up through the net (they probably deserve player points for effort though!).
SHORT PASS: When a player passes the ball there must be sufficient space for an opposing player on the court to be able to intercept the ball as it moves from the hands of the thrower to those of the receiver.
